Behavior Strategies and Accommodations in the General Education Classroom.

Description: This workshop reviewed essential elements needed to promote successful inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorders in the general education classroom. Emphasis was made on the use of assistive technology and augmentative alternative communication as a means of promoting learning, engaging students in active participation, and development of social communication within the context of the classroom environment. Specific examples on accommodations and modifications to be used with students with ASD were provided.

ASD & the Reading Comprehension Challenge: What Can You Do?

This workshop described why students with ASD demonstrate difficulties in the area of reading comprehension and strategies to address these challenges were shared. Reading comprehension strategies presented can be applied to all school-aged students and their comprehension challenges. Focus was on students with impairments in speech and language.
