Each year UM-NSU CARD recognizes individuals in our community who have made significant contributions benefiting children and/or adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or one of UM-NSU CARD’s other related disabilities (deaf-blind, sensory impairment with other handicapping condition). Categories include:
- Outstanding Clinician
- Outstanding Educator
- Outstanding Community Service Award
- Outstanding Student Volunteer
Outstanding Clinician
This award is given to a clinician in the community who has contributed significantly towards improving the wellbeing of individuals with ASD or one of our other related disabilities. This may include employees of public agencies, private agencies or private practitioners. Clinicians may serve as administrators, consultants or related services providers.
Outstanding Educator
This award is given to a teacher, itinerant support personnel or para-professional who has contributed significantly towards improving the wellbeing of individuals with ASD or one of our other related disabilities. This may include employees of public schools or private schools. This may include employees of public or private schools, working in self-contained classrooms, resource rooms or general education classrooms.
Outstanding Community Service Award
This award is given to an individual who has contributed significantly towards improving the wellbeing of individuals with ASD or one of our other related disabilities. This may be in the areas of public awareness, advocacy or leadership. This individual is someone who has demonstrated personal dedication above and beyond the call of duty.
Outstanding Student Volunteer
This award is given to an elementary, middle, high school or college student (or group of students) who has dedicated time and energy on behalf of individuals with ASD or one of our other related disabilities. This contribution may be in the areas of public awareness, leadership, education, exceptional personal commitment or community service. Students may be enrolled in private or public schools.
Award Recipients
Recipients will:
- Be recognized at an awards ceremony
- Be featured in the UM-NSU CARD Training Calendar
- Receive a commemorative plaque to display
